About SVC

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. - Hebrews 12

The aims of the Sports Village Church are as follows:

  • To encourage people to grow in their understanding and relationship with God through regular teaching of the bible and personal study.
  • To encourage people to meet regularly.
  • To encourage people to be active in their local community.

We try and achieve this in a number of different ways. Firstly we meet regularly as a church each Sunday at 4.30pm, so you still get those Sunday lie ins. We have food together which is a great opportunity for people to chat and catch up. It's also a great opportunity if you are new, in a relaxed atmosphere, to get to know people.

Secondly we believe in worshipping God using words that people understand, no funny Christian language just words that you would find on the street..... well maybe not all of them!

Next because God created us, the world and all that is in it we believe he deserves to be acknowledged. God didn't just create the world but he takes a personal interest in our well being and day to day lives. For these reasons we believe in gathering together to worship and praise him. In the same way people go to the local rugby or football game.

Next we believe the bible is the word of God and has the power and ability, if read and used to transform peoples lives. As part of our weekly gathering we open the bible to find out what it meant then and what it means now.

Lastly as we learn more about God through worship and reading the bible we start to understand that church is more than just Sunday but it's about the rest of the week also. We hope that these times together will inspire and encourage people to get invloved in their local community to see it transformed for the better. As a church we run local projects in partnership with Christ Church Pennington that can help people to do this.
